MEGAPLEX TRILOGY

1 March - 1 June 2014

TEMPORARY EXHIBITION
ARTIST: MARCO BRAMBILLA
CURATOR: KATHLEEN FORDE

Borusan Contemporary presents a trilogy of 3D video collages by Artist Marco Brambilla from the Borusan Contemporary Art collection. The three works include Creation (Megaplex)(2012) Evolution (Megaplex) (2010) and Civilization (Megaplex) (2008).

All of the videos, created with groundbreaking 3D technology, act as fluid, moving tableaux, incorporating over 400 films from throughout cinematic history.

In Brambilla’s own words, "[The works] represent the collective consciousness of their era, a kind of pop version of subliminal film memory. I looked through a lot of foreign cinema for some of the more provocative imagery and everything, virtually every genre you can think of is pretty well represented."

Marco Brambilla was born in Milan, Italy. He lives and works in New York City. Brambilla has exhibited his renowned video installations worldwide, including at the Seoul Biennial, SITE Santa Fe, the New Museum in New York, Kunsthalle in Bern, SFMOMA, the Venice Biennale, and the Sundance Film Festival. In 2011, Brambilla's first major survey was presented at the Santa Monica Museum of Art. His videos have also been the subject of large-scale public art installations produced by organizations like Art Production Fund and Creative Time. Brambilla has garnered international acclaim from publications such as Artforum, Frieze, Art in America, Vanity Fair, and The New York Times Magazine, and his work is part of the permanent collections at the Guggenheim New York, San Francisco Museum of Art and Arco Foundation in Madrid, among other institutions.
