Edward Burtynsky: Shifting Topography

Borusan Contemporary presents a special publication accompanying Shifting Topography, the first major solo exhibition in Turkey by Edward Burtynsky, one of the leading figures in contemporary photography. This comprehensive catalogue offers an in-depth exploration into Burtynsky s artistic practice of last thirty years and documents the complex relationship between humans and the natural world through his distinctive perspective.

Curated by Marcus Schubert, Shifting Topography is the result of a long-standing collaboration between Borusan Contemporary and the artist. The exhibition brings together a selection of Burtynsky s photographs taken in Turkey and around the world. Beginning with the commissioned project focusing on Erosion in various regions of Turkey for the Borusan Contemporary Art Collection, the exhibition also includes works addressing the themes of Water&Salt, African Studies, Nature, Quarries, Berezniki Mine and Oil—together forming an extensive visual record of humanity s imprint on the planet.

The book, which shares its title with the exhibition, features texts by curator Marcus Schubert and Borusan Contemporary Director Dr. Kumru Eren. Both authors examine the past thirty years of Burtynsky s work featured in the exhibition, revealing the intellectual depth behind the artist s aesthetic approach and ethical inquiries.
Edward Burtynsky: Shifting Topography is available at Frankeştayn Bookstore at Borusan Contemporary s Perili Köşk. The exhibition is open to visitors at Perili Köşk on weekends from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. through 16 August 2026.
