Mat Collishaw: Arhythmia

A comprehensive publication accompanies the exhibition "Mat Collishaw: Arrhythmia" presented by Borusan Contemporary in the 2023-2024 season. Curated by Alice Sharp, the exhibition creates a bridge between art and science, allowing these two worlds to converge. The publication, which has the same title as the exhibition, includes reviews of Mat Collishaw's recent works through the filter of art history, literature, philosophy, and science. The book includes detailed documentation of the works that are on view at the Haunted Mansion as well.

Alice Sharp's interview with Mat Collishaw covers wide-ranging issues from Albrecht Dürer's revolutionary aesthetics to the use of artificial intelligence in artworks as well as from 19th-century philosophy to the nature of optical illusions. Director of Borusan Contemporary, Dr. Kumru Eren, determines the position of "Arrhythmia" within Mat Collishaw's artistic journey by drawing on the concepts put forward by Cornelius Agrippa, one of the leading figures of the German Renaissance, along with 20th-century thinkers such as Hannah Arendt and Gilles Deleuze.

The publication presents detailed information about the works in the exhibition, including "Zoetrop (Sounding Sirens)" commissioned by the Borusan Contemporary Art Collection. Moreover, it also includes essays that approach Collishaw's art from the perspectives of literature and science. PEN/Faulkner award recipient Chloe Aridjis traces the stories that Mat Collishaw's new works call to mind. For the readers to re-evaluate Collishaw's work based on the ecology of the Bosphorus from a different perspective, hydrobiologist Muharrem Balcı provides them with a scientific background.

The "Mat Collishaw: Arrhythmia" exhibition book is available at the Frankeştayn Bookstore located in the Borusan Contemporary Art Store. You can visit Frankeştayn Bookstore on the ground floor of the Haunted Mansion every weekend between 10:00 and 19:00.
